The tools allow a user to rotate video, stabilize handheld video footage, add color correction and introduce certain special effects. Users can also boost the contrast and colour definition of their videos. All this and more can be accessed via the "Edit video" tab atop the user's account.
To begin editing the user simply has to click the ‘Edit video' tab. Here, a user will be able to add effects, trim the video time and even change the soundtrack, all after the video has already been uploaded. Once the user is satisfied with the final video he simply has to click the ‘Save' button and the new video will be loaded onto the site. If at any point a user is not pleased with the results, the video can be re-edited or reverted to the original clip. The video IDs will remain the same and the comments and view counts will remain unchanged.
There is however a limit on popular videos that have crossed the 1000-view mark. YouTube said that these videos will have to be saved as new videos if edited.
YouTube's video editing service was put in place on September 14.
