Physical Security
Since 50% of all mobile thefts are from vehicles, Don't leave your mobile phone in an unattended place.
The first rule is to hide your mobile phone.
Make sure you always lock your mobile phone.
Mark both the battery and inside the battery cover of the mobile phone using the ultraviolet (UV) pen with your postcode and either the house number or the first two initials of your house name.
Use the mobile handset's security lock (Pin) code to lock your mobile phone after few minutes, will stop thieves being able to use it.
Always keep a note of your mobile phone's serial number (IMEI).
You can find it under the phone battery, or type *#06# (working in the most phones). If a mobile phone is stolen, the serial (IMEI) number helps your mobile service provider block the phone.
If you do pay for mobile handset insurance and your phone is stolen, make sure you report it within 24 hours as most insurers insist on this as part of the policy terms and conditions.
If your phone is stolen make sure you report it to the police.
Software Security
Install updated antivirus software on your mobile phone to protect it against viruses and worms.
Turn off Bluetooth when not using it. Also you can use it in the hidden mode where nobody can see your mobile phone except the authorized devices.
Make sure your mobile phone's firmware (operating system) and browser are updated to the latest version and patched with any security upgrades. Check out your handset manufacturer's website for updates and downloads that could increase your phone's security.
