LG Optimus Pad @MWC 2011

Image
Tweet BARCELONA – LG announced a tablet with a 3D camera, as well as the world’s first 3D-capable Smartphone. Optimus runs Google’s Android 3.0 platform and has Nvidia Tegra 2 mobile processor (sold as the G-Slate in the United States). LG Optimus Pad has 8.9 inches display, positioning it right between the iPad's 9.7" and the Galaxy Tab's 7" screens. What's more interesting in this device however is its ability to capture 3D content with the two 5MP sensors found on its back. Unfortunately, users won't be able to watch glasses-free 3D on the LG Optimus Pad's 8.9-inch screen. 3D video watching will be done by either using glasses on the tablet's screen, or by streaming the signal via HDMI 1.4 to a compatible 3D TV or monitor (again, for use with glasses). When it comes to software, LG has chosen to stick with stock Android 3.0 Honeycomb. LG President and CEO Jong-seok Park said with a flood of tablets hitting the market, the company felt strongly t

Nokia Microsoft to Launch a Flip Phone

IBM Watson AI gets draw on Jeopardy!

Image
Tweet What Is I.B.M.’s Watson? For the last three years, I.B.M. scientists have been developing what they expect will be the world’s most advanced “question answering” machine, able to understand a question posed in everyday human elocution — “natural language,” as computer scientists call it — and respond with a precise, factual answer. In other words, it must do more than what search engines like Google and Bing do, which is merely point to a document where you might find the answer. It has to pluck out the correct answer itself. Technologists have long regarded this sort of artificial intelligence as a holy grail, because it would allow machines to converse more naturally with people, letting us ask questions instead of typing keywords. Nobody ever tackled “Jeopardy!” because experts assumed that even for the latest artificial intelligence, the game was simply too hard: the clues are too puzzling and allusive, and the breadth of trivia is too wide. With Watson, I.B.M. claims it h
